This Week: Speaking to Parents‚ Honoring Firefighters and More

Good afternoon from Sacramento‚ California –

This week I had the opportunity to speak to parents from all across California at the Legislative Summit hosted by California Policy Center’s Parent Union. Event host‚ Lance Christensen‚ and I discussed the legislative process‚ how parents can make the greatest impact in government‚ and how my time as School Board President and being a mom has benefitted me as a legislator.

One of my core motivations as a legislator and a mom is to create a place for my children to thrive‚ and for all of California’s children to thrive. Working toward that goal requires many approaches – drafting legislation such as AB 2337‚ fighting for parents to have school choice options‚ and improving access to critical resources for students and teachers. California spends $20,000 per student. That’s half a million dollars per classroom‚ yet our school system is ranked among the lowest in the country. (This recent study ranks California’s schools at #44 overall‚ and #49 for the highest number of students per teacher.)

Parents are the solution to making California a place our children can thrive. If you’d like to receive additional education updates and resources from me‚ as well as opportunities to get involved‚ let me know here.

Honoring FirefightersHonoring Firefighters

Californians across the state and especially those in the 1st Assembly District know now more than ever the sacrifice our firefighters make every year to protect our communities. After years of fighting some of the largest wildfires in U.S. history‚ firemen and women and their families have earned a debt of gratitude beyond what we will ever be able to repay.

In an effort to recognize the efforts of these heroes‚ I am a proud co-author of ACR-122 proclaiming the month of July 2022 Firefighter Appreciation Month‚ and July 30‚ 2022 as California Firefighters Memorial Day.

There is an immense amount of work to still be done in the area of wildfires‚ protecting our communities‚ and getting firefighters the mental health resources they need to combat fire related trauma. I am committed to that work and as the newly appointed California representative to the Western Legislative Forestry Task Force‚ I have a new platform to voice our needs and work toward solutions. If you’d like to receive specific updates related to wildfire prevention and response, let me know here.

The ADU Grant provides up to $40‚000 to reimburse pre-development and non-recurring closing costs associated with the construction of the ADU.
