This Week: Fair Season‚ Housing Grants and More

Good afternoon –

It’s fair season!

Fairs and rodeos are important economic drivers of rural communities‚ especially. While providing family fun‚ food, and a love for agriculture‚ our fair grounds also provide shelter and care during natural disasters‚ such as wildfires. Having grown up around my grandfather‚ the fair manager at Intermountain Fair in McArthur for over 40 years‚ fairs are especially nostalgic for me. Use the following list to help you find upcoming fairs near you. A big thank you to my staff for putting this together and to the constituents who reached out contributing information to my office about this year’s fairs.

Find the list of fairs in AD01 on my website here or listed below.

College of the Siskiyous is one of only a few community colleges with on-campus housing for students‚ and thanks to a $32 million housing grant from the State of California‚ in the next few years it will more than double. Community college students rely on local rentals for housing‚ however‚ the current statewide shortage has made finding housing more challenging. This grant‚ which both Senator Dahle and I lent our support to during the application process‚ will help solve this problem for College of the Siskiyous students by creating a new student housing complex with 76 units and 252 beds.

Learn more about College of the Siskiyous here. Congratulations on being one of only five California community colleges to receive this grant!

Did you know? Kids and teens across California communities can get free meals all summer long! During the school year parents can rely on school meals for their children‚ but during the summer months those school meals disappear. The answer is free summer meals programs‚ run by local schools or community groups and open to any kid or teenager who needs a healthy meal. There’s no application‚ no sign-up… just stop by and enjoy.

I am pleased to share that six counties in the 1st Assembly District are receiving funding from California’s Housing Navigators Program to create affordable housing for youth who have been in the foster care system.

This funding‚ totaling more than $103k‚ is intended to help young adults 18-21, particularly those from the foster care system‚ secure and maintain stable housing. These efforts help address both the housing shortage and homelessness in AD01. Learn more about the Housing Navigators Program here.
