Good afternoon –

This week‚ my staff traveled to Siskiyou County to tour the flood site at the McCloud water pipe. Staff met with OES Director Bryan Schenone and CalOES Region III Inland Region Coordinator Robert Goyeneche‚ and spoke to McCloud Community Services General Manager‚ Amos McAbier about the work they have been doing to protect the town water system.

The heavy equipment contracted for this emergency work spends each day trying to dig a channel out under the pipe to accommodate the next flash flood‚ which occurs each afternoon. Upstream they have sentinels posted to radio down and tell them when to pull back with the equipment as the flash floods begin.

Since my team and I last toured this in November 2021‚ the MCSD received a $4.5 million grant from the state to do mitigation work which would allow the pipe to be put into casement and flow safely over the pipeline site at Mud Creek in the future. However‚ this work can’t begin until the flooding ceases – when cold weather hits.

We will support the district and the county in any way we can as they seek to help with this emergency. Learn more about the flooding at Mud Creek here.

Fairs and rodeos are important economic drivers of rural communities‚ especially. I was blessed to grow up around my grandfather‚ the fair manager at Intermountain Fair in McArthur for over 40 years‚ which made fairs especially nostalgic for me.

The following is a list of upcoming fairs in the 1st Assembly District. A big thank you to my staff for putting this together and to the constituents who reached out to contribute information about this year’s fairs.

Find the list of fairs in AD01 on my website here or listed below.

This week my staff attended a tour of the new site of the Truckee Library hosted by Nevada County‚ the Town of Truckee‚ and Friends of the Truckee Library. I am grateful to California’s 25th State Librarian‚ Greg Lucas‚ for making the trip to the 1st Assembly District for this event. The library is an integral part of Eastern Nevada County.

The goal of this project is to create a library facility that serves as a community hub‚ providing a safe and inclusive space with broad resources to those who utilize it.

Also present at the site visit were Nevada County District 5 Supervisor Hardy Bullock‚ Placer County District 5 Supervisor Cindy Gustafson‚ Truckee Town Council Members‚ Friends of the Truckee Library Board Members‚ and invested community partners from Truckee-Donner Rec & Park District‚ Truckee Donner Public Utility District‚ and Truckee Sanitation District.

Thank you to the event hosts and to State Librarian Greg Lucas for making this happen.
