Greetings‚
The legislature has concluded its session‚ and bills that advanced are now awaiting the governor’s decision to either sign or veto. My office has heard from many of you regarding legislation you support or oppose throughout the year. Thank you to those of you who reached out to share your thoughts. Below are updates on some of the most discussed bills:
Senate Bill 268 is a public safety bill I coauthored that adds rape‚ where the defendant intentionally drugged the victim without consent‚ to the list of “violent” felonies. This change could make offenders ineligible for early release under Proposition 57. The bill has passed both houses and is now on the governor’s desk.
Senate Bill 1414 is another public safety bill I coauthored‚ which elevates the penalty for soliciting prostitution from a child to a felony and requires sex offender registration for offenders. This bill has also passed both houses and awaits the governor’s action.
Senate Bill 542 exempts from taxable income any settlement amounts received due to the 2021 Dixie Fire and 2022 Mill Fire. This common-sense bill‚ which I coauthored with Senator Dahle‚ helps fire victims by excluding compensation for losses from state income tax. It‚ too‚ has passed both houses and is on the governor’s desk.
If you would like to express your support for any or all of these bills‚ you can contact the governor here.
Assembly Bill 1840 sought to expand home purchase assistance eligibility through CalHFA to illegal immigrants. Many of you contacted my office to oppose this bill‚ and I voted no. While it did pass both the Assembly and Senate‚ I’m pleased to share that the governor has vetoed it.
If you have any questions‚ feel free to reach out to my office by responding to this email or through my website here. Thank you to all who have shared your thoughts on legislation this year–it’s an honor to represent you in the state legislature.

Intermountain Fair in McArthur
After wrapping up the legislative session over the weekend‚ my family and I were happy to return home and attend the Intermountain Fair in McArthur‚ where my grandfather served as fair manager for over 40 years. It has become a family tradition to take a photo with the locally famous Flo the Clown‚ pictured here.
Fairs and rodeos are vital economic drivers in rural communities‚ and I am a proud supporter of our local fairs. Along with offering family fun‚ food‚ and a love for agriculture‚ our fairgrounds also serve as shelters and resource hubs during natural disasters‚ such as wildfires. You can find a list of fairs in the 1st Assembly District on my website here. Support your local fairs!
California Jobs First Collaborative Meeting
This week Team Dahle attended the California Jobs First HRTC Collaborative meeting for the North State region in Anderson‚ facilitated by the North State Planning and Development Collective and the Sierra Institute for Community and Environment. Stakeholders from counties across the region‚ including Butte‚ Glenn‚ Tehama‚ Plumas‚ Sierra‚ Trinity‚ Shasta‚ Lassen‚ Siskiyou‚ and Modoc‚ gathered to discuss a shared vision for a thriving‚ resilient economy.
The goal is to promote healthy forests and watersheds‚ financially secure rural communities‚ and innovative businesses connected to regional markets. Breakout sessions explored current success stories‚ identified gaps‚ and brainstormed ways to leverage existing resources and programs. A special thank you to the event hosts for organizing such an informative and collaborative event aimed at addressing some of our communities’ toughest challenges. $250‚000 Grant Awarded for Cultural Burning Project
I’m pleased to share that the Sierra Nevada Conservancy (SNC) has awarded a $250‚000 grant to the Nevada City Rancheria Nisenan Tribe as part of the Regional Forest and Fire Capacity Program. This funding will support efforts to reduce hazardous fuels through cultural burning practices‚ utilizing traditional ecological knowledge.
The project will take place in Nevada City‚ enhancing forest management and restoring culturally significant plants to the landscape. This is great news for our district‚ and I look forward to seeing the positive impact of this work. Learn more about Sierra Nevada Conservancy here.
