This week the Annual Nonprofit of the Year Award luncheon was held at the Capitol and I had the pleasure of presenting Bright Futures for Youth with the Annual Nonprofit of the Year Award for the 1st Assembly District. Bright Futures for Youth offers year-round academic, social and emotional support to several hundred children and young adults every year in Nevada County. After the last two years especially, parents and children desperately need support and resources like those offered by Bright Futures for Youth. This organization has decades of experience supporting youth in their formative years, when they need it most. They are a true community asset. Here’s what Jennifer Singer, Executive Director of Bright Futures for Youth had to say about receiving the award:

Our program has changed and grown dramatically during the past two decades, because the needs are different and much greater than in the past. With the ongoing support of the community, including from leaders like Assemblywoman Dahle, we are helping children and young adults to succeed.” |
From after-school programs and summer camps to access to health care, counseling and healthy meals, Bright Futures for Youth is connecting and developing relationships with youth.  Photo: Turtle Bay Exploration Park in Redding – Women in STEM exhibit | Legislative Update AB 2640, “Zacky’s Bill” – I am proud to be a lead author on a bill that aims to help children with food allergies have a safer experience in school cafeterias. This bill has passed in the Assembly and moved on to the Senate. AB 2337, Frontier Schools – I am pleased to share that my bill to define frontier schools, opening up more opportunities to procure funding for small, rural schools, has not only passed out of the Assembly, it has now passed out of the Senate Education Committee and moves on to the Senate Floor. ACR 154, Recognizing Women in STEM – I am proud to be a co-author on ACR 154 which honors 100 years of women in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics during the month of June 2022. On a local level, Turtle Bay Exploration Park in Redding has a STEM Superheroes exhibition that highlights eight STEM professionals from the local community. Check it out here! |
