Greetings‚
The 1st Assembly District is in the midst of County Fair season! County Fairs are such a vital part of rural communities‚ especially. In addition to providing family fun and delicious food‚ they are important economic drivers and instill an important appreciation for agriculture in our young people. Our fair grounds also provide shelter and care during natural disasters‚ such as wildfires. Fairs are especially nostalgic for me having grown up with my grandfather who was the fair manager for over 40 years at the Intermountain Fair in McArthur.
Here is a list of some of the fairs happening in the 1st Assembly District. Find them here on my website or listed below. If you know of a fair in the 1st Assembly District that is not listed below‚ please respond to this email with the date‚ location‚ and website. Enjoy your local fairs this summer!

Modoc Bill Signed by Governor
I am pleased to share that one of my bills‚ AB 2974‚ was signed by the Governor earlier this week. This bill addresses a specific need in Modoc County by changing the designation of their jailers from a custodial officer to a deputy sheriff with their primary role being care and custody of incarcerated persons. This change will allow the jailers to be used in the field during a local natural disaster to assist with evacuations and other duties associated with such an event.
By rectifying this disparity‚ we ensure our local law enforcement officers have the authority they require to protect and serve our communities effectively. I extend my gratitude to my colleagues for their support as this bill made its way through the legislature‚ and I remain committed to advocating for our district’s needs in Sacramento. Learn more about this bill here.
Whiskeytown Lake’s Role in the Central Valley Project
Last week‚ Team Dahle joined National Park Service Ranger Scott Einberger for an educational tour of Whiskeytown Lake. Our staff participated in a ranger-led kayak tour‚ a free program available to the public throughout the summer‚ to learn about Whiskeytown and all the available programs. For a full list of offerings‚ visit the National Parks website here.
During the tour‚ Ranger Scott Einberger explained that in 1933‚ a federal public works project was initiated to store and transfer water from the wetter regions of Northern California to the drier Central Valley. Whiskeytown Lake is one of the reservoirs contributing to the Central Valley’s agriculture‚ an industry valued at $17 billion annually. Ranger Einberger highlighted that our water helps grow 50% of the nation’s fruits and nuts‚ all originating from the Central Valley. Additionally‚ the region produces all of the nation’s almonds and four-fifths of the world’s almonds. This was particularly relevant given our office’s efforts to raise awareness about the needs of the agriculture industry in the state legislature.
As someone personally involved in agriculture and a dedicated advocate for our farmers and ranchers in Sacramento‚ I am grateful to our local rangers for emphasizing the vital connection between our water resources and the food that feeds the nation. Our resources are precious‚ and we must care for them to ensure California remains an agricultural powerhouse.
In addition to Whiskeytown Lake’s “Rise and Shine” kayak tours‚ visitors can also enjoy programs such as introductory paddle boarding‚ junior rangers‚ junior firefighters‚ moonlight kayak tours‚ Whiskeytown Night Sky with Shasta Astronomy Club‚ and more.
