Make Your Voice Heard: California Insurance

Greetings‚

I know many of you have faced the incredibly difficult challenge of maintaining insurance in wildfire-prone areas‚ but today‚ we have an important opportunity to make our voices heard. The California Insurance Commissioner‚ Ricardo Lara‚ is opening up public input on new regulations that could lead to more insurance options for those living in high-risk areas.

These regulations are designed to require insurance companies to write more policies in wildfire-affected regions‚ helping to reverse the trend we’ve seen in recent years. For many‚ this marks the first real chance to address the issues we’ve been grappling with for far too long. The Commissioner’s proposal also seeks to ensure that insurance companies account for the proactive steps homeowners have taken to protect their properties‚ as well as modernize how wildfire risks are calculated.

This is a critical moment for our district‚ and I encourage you to make your voice heard. A virtual public hearing will be held on September 17‚ 2024‚ at 10 AM‚ and I strongly urge you to participate. Written comments can also be submitted to CDIRegulations@insurance.ca.gov. This is our chance to push for faster‚ more effective action from the state‚ and to ensure that our needs are front and center as these regulations take shape.

As always‚ my office will continue to advocate for solutions that address the unique challenges our community faces. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you need help participating in this important process. Learn more by reading the entire press release here.

Public Safety Bills Pass Out of Assembly

Public Safety Bills Pass Out of Assembly

Last week I voted for and supported crucial public safety bills designed to tackle California’s crime wave. These measures enhance penalties for retail theft‚ simplify convictions for vehicle burglary‚ and crack down on the sale of stolen property online. Although some progressive legislators attempted to undermine these efforts and sabotage Prop 36‚ we succeeded.

Public safety is a top priority‚ and I value our law enforcement officers deeply. I’m pleased to support those who work tirelessly to keep our communities safe. This victory is a significant win for public safety and for respecting the will of the voters. View the entire list on my Facebook page here.

Shasta Community Health Center Meetings

Healthcare is a critical issue across California‚ particularly in the rural communities of the 1st Assembly District. Long travel times to appointments and limited access to healthcare professionals in smaller communities are challenges our office has recognized during my time in the Assembly. We have been working to find solutions that will help ensure existing medical services continue to serve the underserved populations who rely on them.

This week‚ our team met with Bernie Gutierrez‚ Community Relations Specialist‚ and Dr. Brandon Thornock‚ CEO of Shasta Community Health Center‚ to discuss the services they provide‚ the barriers they face‚ the areas where more services are needed‚ and how our office can support the important work of the Shasta Community Health Center. We look forward to continuing these conversations with medical professionals throughout the 1st Assembly District as we work together to address the challenges of providing and accessing healthcare. Learn more about Shasta Community Health Center here.
