SACRAMENTO, CA (May 18, 2026) – Last week, Assemblywoman Hadwick (R-Alturas) celebrated World Agritourism Day by presenting ACR 167 on the Assembly Floor on Thursday.
“Agritourism is more than just a fun family outing — it keeps family farms alive, supports rural economies, preserves our agricultural heritage, and connects people to where their food comes from,” said Assemblywoman Hadwick. “From pumpkin patches and farm stays to wineries, u-pick farms, ranch tours, festivals, and farmers markets, agritourism showcases the very best of rural California.”
ACR 167 specifically recognizes World Agritourism Day, celebrating the farms and ranches across California that help provide unforgettable experiences for families. Vineyards, flower farms, petting zoos, you-pick berry farms and pumpkin patches all offer opportunities to create memories that last a lifetime.
“This resolution is especially meaningful to me because our family owns a pumpkin patch, and we truly love being part of people’s family memories and traditions,” said Assemblywoman Hadwick. “Watching kids pick pumpkins, families take photos, and generations come together on the farm is one of the best parts of what we do.”
In addition to offering fun experiences, this industry plays a vital role in the economy. The California wine industry alone attracts an estimated 21 million tourists who spend an estimated $2.1 billion annually statewide.
The Assemblywoman also took the opportunity to recognize several important leaders in the agritourism industry on the Assembly Floor including: Penny Leff, Retired UC Statewide Agritourism Coordinator; Rachel Callahan, UC Statewide Agritourism Coordinator; Shannon Douglass, CA Farm Bureau President; Sarah Ansell, with California Food & Agriculture and Justin Miller, Owner of Twin Peaks Orchard in Newcastle.
“California agriculture feeds the world, but agritourism helps tell the story behind it,” said Assemblywoman Hadwick. “I am proud to celebrate the farms and ranches that open their gates, share their way of life, and help keep rural communities thriving!”
