Good afternoon‚

While the Assembly is in recess for the month of July‚ my staff and I are staying active with the community leaders and constituents in AD01- the largest geographical district in California. A few fun facts you might not know about our district…

  • The 1st Assembly District is geographically the largest in California at 25‚499 square miles
  • It would take over 5 hours to drive from one end to the other‚ from the California / Oregon border to Lake Tahoe…This is roughly the same time it takes to drive through the entire state of Vermont!
  • The 55th Assembly District is the smallest district at 25.4 square miles‚ about 1/1‚000 the size of AD01. It would only take about 30 minutes to travel from one end to the other of this district.

We may have the most area to cover‚ but my staff of five and I are honored to serve you wherever you are located in the 1st Assembly District. Just this week‚ my Senior Field Representative Alice Bennett‚ attended the Peace Officer of the Year ceremony in Shasta County where the following individuals were recognized for their outstanding service:

REDDING POLICE DEPARTMENT
Officer Tim Jaegel

CALIFORNIA DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS
Parole Agent III Jennifer Cross

SHASTA COUNTY PROBATION DEPARTMENT
Supervising Probation Officer Tyler Wilson

SHASTA COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT
Deputy Zachary Miller

SHASTA COUNTY MARSHAL’S OFFICE
Deputy Anthony Phillips

CALIFORNIA HIGHWAY PATROL
Officer Jason Morton‚ ID 17855

ANDERSON POLICE DEPARTMENT
Officer Nash Folden

SHASTA COUNTY DISTRICT ATTORNEY’S OFFICE
Investigator Alexander N. Houston

We are incredibly grateful for our law enforcement and for the sacrifices they make to keep our communities safe. Congratulations to the 2021 award winners for Peace Officer of the Year.

Meanwhile‚ in Sacramento‚ my Legislative Director Doria Wallentine is hard at work helping me prepare for August 3rd’s Appropriations Committee where 376 measures are set to be heard. 376 measures means hundreds of pages and countless hours of reading. I am thankful to have a hard working and dedicated team behind me‚ helping me stay on top of the vast legislation coming across my desk and represent you well in Sacramento.

My team and I are available to assist you in any way we can. If you’d like to contact my office‚ simply respond to this email.

Stacked manilla file folders filled with papers sitting next to a closed lock, securing a chain link which drapes over the stack of files.Individuals with Concealed Carry Permits – Info. Leaked by DOJ Firearms Dashboard Portal from CA’s Attorney General

Last week‚ every Californian with a concealed carry permit had their personal information posted online. Information including but not limited to name and home address.

Attorney General Rob Bonta‚ California’s top law enforcement official‚ has failed to keep Californians safe – negligently posting the private and sensitive information of legal gun owners and CCW permit holders on the internet.

This is another glaring example of Governor Gavin Newsom and his appointed Attorney General Rob Bonta’s inability to keep Californians and their personal information safe. Whether it’s getting violent criminals and repeat offenders off our streets and behind bars‚ or keeping your most private information safe‚ they are leading this state in an unsafe direction and violating Californians privacy.

Unfortunately this type of irresponsible and incompetent leadership has become what Californians are accustomed to. You deserve better. I sent this letter to Attorney General Rob Bonta‚ in response to his failure along with my Assembly Republican colleagues.

Fire prepardness graphic.Wildfire Preparedness

As we enter the hottest months of the year‚ I cannot overstress the importance of wildfire preparedness. The 1st Assembly District has seen some of the greatest wildfire devastation in California‚ which is why we should be the most prepared. Here are some important things to do in the event of a wildfires:
  • Stay aware of the latest news and updates from your local media and fire department.
  • Place your emergency supply kit and other valuables in your vehicle.
  • Shut all windows and doors in your house‚ but leave them unlocked.
  • Leave as early as possible‚ before you’re told to evacuate. Do not linger once evacuation orders have been given. This clears roads for firefighters and helps ensure residents’ safety.
  • Return home only when authorities say it is safe.

Truck driving down road.Request to Protect the Trucking Industry

Earlier this week my Republican colleagues and I joined together to urge Governor Newsom to delay the implementation of AB 5 or exempt independent truckers entirely from its employee reclassification test. Between California’s port crisis and nationwide inflation reaching record highs‚ AB 5’s employment standards for independent truckers can lead to more strain on our economy and supply chain‚ and‚ ultimately‚ yet another increase to the already unbearable inflation numbers we are seeing.
