This Week: Nevada County‚ Redding’s State of the City‚ and More

Good afternoon-

For those of you I was able to connect with‚ I enjoyed being with you in Nevada County this week. During my trip‚ my staff and I met with Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital Foundation’s Executive Director‚ Sandra Barrington to tour Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital and learn about the local hospital in District 1. The tour included walking through the Family Birth Center and learning more about the holistic approach of the facility’s Cancer Center. More on this in next week’s newsletter…stay tuned!

Following the hospital tour‚ we attended the Open House for SAFE‚ a center that offers a safe and supervised environment where youth experiencing homelessness can access a range of services. I had the honor of presenting Bright Futures for Youth‚ their resolution for being District 1’s Non Profit of the Year and I had a wonderful time seeing some of the elected officials at the Open House‚ including Chair of the Nevada County Board of Supervisors‚ Sue Hoek.

Last Friday‚ my staff attended Redding’s Annual State of the City address hosted by the Redding Chamber of Commerce and the City of Redding at Umbrella Alley for the second year in a row.

President & CEO of the Redding Chamber gave an update on the upward trending climate of Redding’s business community; Todd Jones of Shasta Economic Development Corporation (EDC) and Danny Orloff of Visit Redding followed with presentations on tourism‚ an uptick in flying local‚ and more positive news about the state of Redding.

Mayor Kristen Schreder’s presentation titled “Hope Moves Us Forward” covered a variety of positive news about the community from the past year‚ including increased public safety‚ the future addition of a brand new fire department‚ and more.

Exciting things are happening in Redding and the first Assembly District! Learn more about this year’s State of the City event here.

Nevada County Board of Supervisors' meeting room.In the District

On Tuesday of this week‚ my staff attended the Nevada County Board of Supervisors’ meeting and learned about some of the items listed in the Board’s agenda here (the meeting can be viewed here). Staff was present to hear from PG&E’s Sierra Division Public Affairs representative‚ Brandon Sanders‚ on power outages within specific areas of District 1. One of the ways my staff and I stay connected to what is happening in the 9 counties we serve is by attending local government meetings like this one.
