This Week: Staying Safe in Inclement Weather and More

Greetings‚

California is a state that always has to be prepared for natural disasters‚ and North State residents are no strangers to wildfire‚ flooding‚ and snowstorms. This weekend is no exception. Winter storms are hitting Northern California‚ bringing heavy rain and snowfall with them.

As we prepare for the potential impacts of this storm‚ here are some tips to help you get ready:

  1. Prepare for power outages. Take inventory of the items you need that rely on electricity‚ locate your flashlights‚ and charge your devices. Build a “stay box” with food and emergency supplies in case you are unable to leave your home.
  2. Stay informed by signing up for emergency alerts including warnings & evacuation notices: CalAlerts.org
  3. Try to stay off the road. If you must drive‚ download the Caltrans QuickMap app or visit QuickMap.dot.ca.gov to learn up-to-the-minute road information on traffic‚ closures‚ chain control‚ and more.

Emergent 3DTouring Emergent 3D in Redding

This week Team Dahle joined staff from Emergent 3D in Redding for a tour of the second on-site 3D printed house in the state of California.

Emergent 3D is leading the way in 3D printed homes. 3D printed homes are beneficial because they require less labor‚ allow for more creative design‚ and they lower costs overall. By creating a concrete structure‚ these homes are more resilient to inclement weather and disaster that Californians have become familiar with. Emergent 3D is working with the Insurance Institute for Business and Home Safety to create truly resilient homes and hopefully lower insurance costs for residents living in wildfire prone areas‚ especially. Being in the middle of a housing crisis‚ innovative solutions from companies like Emergent 3D is what we need. Learn more here.

Children's Legacy Center of ReddingChildren’s Legacy Center

Team Dahle had the opportunity to tour the Children’s Legacy Center (CLC) in Redding on February 23rd‚ 2023. The CLC is a non-profit organization that provides services to the greater Shasta County community that are research-based and results-driven to maximize impact. Services include forensic interviewing‚ counseling‚ advocacy‚ and medical services.

The CLC was established in partnership with five government agencies and regional nonprofits. The Children’s Legacy Center‚ in partnership with the State of California’s Child Trafficking Unit‚ is also developing a comprehensive regional pilot program to address the needs of trafficked youth across 25+ Northern California counties.

We had a great time touring the Children’s Legacy Center in Redding. It was inspiring to learn more about the important work being done to help protect children who have been through traumatic experiences. Learn more at childrenslegacycenter.org/about-us.

Assemblywoman Dahle at Joint Informational Hearing at California Interscholastic FederationCalifornia Interscholastic Federation

I recently attended a Joint Informational Hearing where the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) gave a presentation on their work and emerging issues. The CIF is a nonprofit organization that governs high school sports in California. It is comprised of 1‚024 public high schools‚ 201 charter schools‚ and 390 private high schools‚ serving over 1.8 million students and over 750‚000 student-athletes.

California Interscholastic Federation is responsible for setting eligibility requirements for student-athletes‚ developing and enforcing rules for competition‚ and organizing and hosting state championship events. The CIF offers a wide range of sports for student-athletes‚ and also provides support and resources for coaches‚ officials‚ and athletic administrators. In addition to athletics‚ the CIF promotes academic excellence among student-athletes through its Scholar-Athlete program‚ which recognizes outstanding academic achievement. This program encourages student-athletes to excel not only on the field but also in the classroom.

The California Interscholastic Federation plays a crucial role in high school sports in California. It was great to learn more about their efforts and how we can support them as representatives. Learn more about the CIF here.
