Greetings‚
I’m excited to share some of the significant developments and initiatives that my office has been engaged in this month. Collaboration and engagement are vital to effectively serving the constituents of the 1st Assembly District‚ and I’m grateful to all who have participated in discussions on important legislative matters.
This month‚ my office had the privilege of meeting with several advocacy groups and organizations at the Capitol‚ including:
- Big Brothers Big Sisters
- Karen Bohlke with the Martin Luther King Jr. Freedom Center
- First 5 Executives and constituents from the 1st Assembly District
- County Veterans Service Officers (CVSO) from Plumas and Nevada counties‚ who visited for their annual Capitol Advocacy Day. Our discussions centered around the invaluable role of CVSO’s in assisting veterans in our district.
- Representatives from the Northern California Power Agency

As the legislative session progresses‚ I’m proud to highlight some of the bills that my staff and I have been working on:
- Senate Bill 1074 – I’ve joined a bipartisan effort to introduce the “Sexually Violent Predator Accountability‚ Fairness‚ and Enforcement Act” (SAFE Act). SB 1074 aims to enhance transparency and prevent the secretive placement of Sexually Violent Predators in communities across the state‚ prioritizing public safety.
- Assembly Bill 2222 – Recognizing the importance of literacy for academic and social-emotional development‚ I’ve collaborated on the “Early Literacy and Science of Reading” bill. This bipartisan effort aims to address California’s literacy crisis and ensure all students have access to quality reading instruction.
- Senate Bill 1011 – Addressing the urgent issue of homelessness‚ SB 1011 seeks to compassionately manage encampments while prioritizing public safety and connecting individuals to vital services. This bill emphasizes the importance of both compassion and accountability in addressing homelessness in our communities.
I am dedicated to advancing legislation that reflects the needs and values of the constituents I represent. Your input and engagement are invaluable as we work together to create positive change in our district and throughout California.

| Congratulations to Former Redding Chamber of Commerce CEO‚ Jake Mangas Congratulations are in order for Jake Mangas‚ who has recently transitioned from his role as CEO of the Redding Chamber of Commerce to the position of President and Chief Philanthropy Officer at Mercy Foundation. Throughout his tenure at the Chamber‚ Mr. Mangas exhibited exemplary leadership‚ driving initiatives that significantly impacted the local community and business landscape. It was an honor for our office to recognize his outstanding contributions. | Landline Service in Rural Areas Thank you for bringing your concerns to my attention regarding the notice you received from AT&T regarding their application with the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) to discontinue copper landline service in your area. I want to assure you that my office is taking this matter seriously. We are closely monitoring the situation and staying informed about developments as they unfold. In fact‚ we have already met with AT&T representatives to discuss the implications of this application. I understand the importance of reliable communication services‚ especially for those of us in rural California. My family and I personally experience the challenges of connectivity in the First District‚ and I am committed to advocating for solutions that meet the needs of our communities. I urge you to actively participate in the CPUC’s decision-making process by submitting your comments on the importance of maintaining landlines directly to the CPUC. Your input can make a significant impact on their decision. Additionally‚ I encourage you to consider attending one of the upcoming public hearings or virtual hearings hosted by the CPUC.
