Elevating Understanding of Rural California’s Challenges and Opportunities
SACRAMENTO – Today, Assemblywoman Dahle proudly announced her appointment as Chair of the California State Legislature Rural Caucus. This significant new role underscores the chance to enhance representation for the rural North
State, an area often sidelined when policy decisions are made in California.
“We have a guiding principle within my team when we discuss the stories of constituents from my district,” shared Assemblywoman Megan Dahle. “We refer to it as ‘Raising Rural Voices.’ A substantial portion of the California
legislature lacks a comprehensive understanding of rural life. The nuances of traveling to another county for medical services or the absence of cell phone reception in entire towns often go unnoticed. Through this appointment, I am excited to take ‘Raising Rural Voices’ to greater heights. My goal is to educate my legislative colleagues about the distinctive challenges and needs that rural communities in California face. Every Californian, regardless of location, deserves equitable recognition and representation.”
This new position presents a significant opportunity to further endeavors to invite colleagues to experience the 1st
Assembly District and what it truly means to live in rural California. Assemblywoman Dahle looks forward to
collaborating with Vice Chair Alvarado-Gil to develop considerate and lasting solutions for our extraordinary rural
communities.
Established in January 2003, the bipartisan and bicameral Rural Caucus was founded to address policy concerns and issues that affect rural areas and communities in the State of California. Historically, the needs of rural areas have been neglected or placed on the backburner within the State Legislature. Rural legislators frequently lack the political influence and numbers required to effectively compete with their urban counterparts. The representation offered by the Rural Caucus will ensure a strong voice for rural communities, acting as a focal point and direct channel through which residents and organizations can communicate their messages, concerns, and needs to the entire California State
Legislature.
Assemblywoman Megan Dahle represents the 1st Assembly District in the California Legislature, which includes portions of El Dorado and Placer counties, along with Alpine, Amador, Lassen, Modoc, Nevada, Plumas, Shasta, Sierra, and Siskiyou counties.
